Mercedes AMG HPP – HPP solid-state battery concept
Production of an innovative, solid-state battery solution, capable of meeting the unique requirements of solid-state cells.
Mercedes-AMG HPP will develop a proof-of-concept battery using solid–state cells to demonstrate the performance of the technology, which fits within a production–intent package envelope. Solid–state cells have the potential to be the cell of choice for future EV passenger car applications given their unique characteristics. The project will be closely aligned with automotive industry priorities, including increasing range, reducing charging time and reducing kerb weight. It will be demonstrated at Cenex Expo 2024.
Project Highlights
- Developing a wireless battery management system, which will be demonstrated in the final product, producing a demonstrator utilising solid-state battery as an energy source
- Developing and producing a working concept that fits within a current production battery envelope, providing a solution that could feasibly be adopted into future Mercedes Benz cars
- Total project value £2.1 million, with £1 million funded through the APC
