Rise in new vehicle sales fuels drive for innovation
Record breaking new car registrations reported this week highlight the ongoing motor industry renaissance in the UK. The SMMT’s monthly car sales figures showed a 6% increase in the number of new cars being registered in March 2015 compared with last year and the 37th consecutive month of growth. On the same day SMMT also announced that the sales of buses and coaches have risen 6% and commercial vehicles are up 25% in the same period.
£14 billion has been invested in the UK automotive sector since 2011 and the report highlighted the importance of the APC in providing the essential support for UK manufacturers to develop low carbon propulsion systems for future vehicles.
The latest investments announced by the APC include projects totalling £80 million in the bus, van, off-highway and car sectors.
