Capability study To identify opportunities

The Advanced Propulsion Centre is currently working with Ricardo and E4tech to produce a new capability study based upon data and insights gathered from the UK’s leading automotive R&D experts.

The study (which is supported by the Automotive Council and UK Government Department for Business, Innovation & Skills) builds upon the 2010 ‘Automotive Technologies: The UK’s current capability’ report, which established the UK’s ability to deliver key passenger car technologies and led to the definition of the strategic technologies for the UK automotive industry that are still used in 2015 to guide government support to the sector. The 2010 report, along with the Automotive Council roadmaps established a strong foundation for engagement between UK government, industry and academia.

The new study is researching a broader range of market sectors, surveying industry experts regarding their low carbon propulsion R&D activities in order to assess the UK’s capability to deliver these strategic technologies. In addition, the study will identify new technology-led opportunities, assessing their relative attractiveness and determining how barriers to their attainment can be overcome. The findings from this study will be consolidated into a high profile report due to be published by July 2016 that will enable industry, government and academic stakeholders to identify opportunities for strategic capability growth in the UK.
