Automotive Transformation Fund

Accelerating the transition to an electrified UK automotive industry

The Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF) is a funding programme created to support large-scale industrialisation. Up to £850 million of funding will be invested in developing a high-value end-to-end electrified automotive supply chain in the UK. The fund is highlighted as an important mechanism to reach targets in UK Government’s 10-Point Plan for a green industrial revolution and its Transport Decarbonisation Plan.

Expression of Interest (EOI) competition

For businesses that plan to carry out work that supports the UK automotive industry, including capital-focused investment projects, the EOI application enables you to assess your eligibility and progress to the next stage of the funding process.

Supporting key technologies

Supporting the industrialisation of this new supply chain means diving deep to support the sub-tier components, materials and chemicals that will supply this sector.

The Automotive Transformation Fund is dedicated to supporting the large-scale industrialisation of an electrified supply chain. The programme will support strategically important capital and R&D investments in the UK and will begin by focusing on companies involved in:

• batteries including cells (’gigafactories’)
• electric machines and drives
• power electronics
• fuel cells
• upstream supply chain for any of the above

Seizing the opportunity

The UK upstream supply chain opportunity for electrified vehicle technologies has a value of at least £24 billion, which represents significant UK investment opportunities. The ATF is dedicated to supporting UK-registered business and inward investment to capitalise on this.

Supporting inward investment in the UK

Working alongside the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the ATF team works closely with organisations to provide customised support for inward investors in the UK. Our role is to make the process of starting and growing businesses in the UK as easy as possible and to provide support for the long term, helping organisations to become integral to the UK electrified supply chain.

We recognise that every project is different and will need different forms of support. We’ll consider appropriate funding and assistance to help organisations succeed in the UK.

Competitions and funding

The ATF runs an Expression of Interest (EOI) competition to identify organisations to benefit from full capital funding.

The competition is for businesses that plan to carry out capital-focused investment projects that support the UK automotive industry. The EOI application enables you to assess your eligibility to progress to the next stage of the funding process.
