New in 2024, AAG Feasibility Sprints aim to break new ground on topics related to accelerating the transition to more sustainable transport. Academic institutions can apply for grant funding between £30k-£70k to be matched by industry and must be complete by March 2025.

Competition scope:

  • Develop new thinking that leads to a growth in the UK’s capability in sustainable technologies linked to mobility (including investor readiness, novel innovation ideas, future business models). Feasibility Sprints must address the challenges related to mobility sustainability, supporting the UK’s transition to zero-emission vehicles and pathway to net zero.
  • Deliver a comprehensive report to APC detailing the Feasibility Sprint outcomes alongside a summary report/presentation intended for use in the public domain. 
  • To be eligible for funding, projects must be led by an academic institution with an industrial partner to encourage enhanced participation between UK academic institutions and commercial organisations.

A successful study will:

  • Encourage enhanced participation between academic institutions and commercial organisations.
  • Develop new thinking that could lead to a UK capability growth in sustainable mobility technologies linked to vehicles (including investor readiness, novel innovation ideas, future business models).
  • To be in scope, a Feasibility Sprint must address the challenges related to mobility sustainability, supporting the UK’s transition to zero-emission vehicles and pathway to net zero.

Anticipated outcomes and deliverables:

A successful project will have investigated the feasibility of new technology through desktop and/or lab-based research. APC will have access to a comprehensive report that evaluates the practicalities of the project plan, identifying potential challenges and opportunities. A publicly-disseminated summary report or presentation will also be required.

Anticipated outcomes could include:

  • Technical Requirements: Assessment of the technical requirements of the product, resources needed for development, and the potential market gap and demand. 
  • Risk Identification: Early identification of potential issues and risks that could impact the project’s success.
  • Decision-Making Data: In-depth data that aids in making informed decisions regarding the proposed project’s viability.
  • Financial Projections: Documentation of expected costs, benefits, and financial analysis to estimate the expected revenue, profit margin, and return on investment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Obtaining stakeholder buy-in by demonstrating due diligence and presenting the feasibility study findings.
  • Competitive Analysis: Evaluation of the competitive landscape to inform decisions about product positioning, marketing strategies, and pricing.
  • Market Assessment: Confirmation of market opportunities and the target market before significant resources are invested.
