Aston Martin Lagonda (AML) – ELEVATION (Electric Lightweight Vehicle Platform and Digital Toolchain)
Accelerating the development of a luxury BEV platform, enabling a route to net zero, including vehicle lightweighting, a digital toolchain, and electrification training.
Project ELEVATION aims to accelerate the development of a modular luxury battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform, and associated technologies (including UK-based assembly of battery packs and electric drive units) with advanced vehicle lightweighting. This will also enhance the digital toolchain, enabling a route to net-zero facilities and supply chain, and delivering innovative electrification training.
This will include; development of innovative, production-ready composite materials for compression moulding processing, modular tooling for 800V traction battery packs, complex integration of battery and body structural elements for improved performance, integrated twin Electric Drive Unit (EDU) design with high-speed e-motors and SiC inverters, and the use of 3D printing.
Project Highlights
- Addressing the technical challenges of developing a lightweight, 800-volt traction battery pack and twin front EDU into a modular BEV platform with a bandwidth from supercar to luxury SUV.
- Utilising the latest mass reduction technologies, to increase power and energy density whilst achieving the low Z-height required for the vehicle bandwidth.
- Total project value £18 million, £8.9 million funded by the Department for Business and Trade through the APC
