Driving future motorsport business growth: The transition from track to high volume

The Advanced Propulsion Centre will be driving the change from track technology to high volume at the MIA Driving Future Motorsport Business Growth event next week. The APC will be presenting at the event, on the 7 July 2016, which will attract around 200 international cross-sector business leaders, pushing the potential for the transfer of motorsport technology into different applications.

The unique event takes place ahead of the hottest date in the Formula One calendar, the highly anticipated Silverstone’s British Grand Prix. It will explore and showcase the cutting edge innovations produced from the UK’s world-leading Motorsport and High Performance Engineering community through it’s diverse array of key figures presenting and companies exhibiting. It promises to be an exciting event that will give attendees a look into the potential of Motorsport technology innovations through insightful presentations, powerful technology showcased and the opportunity for networking among a varied high level stakeholder group.

The APC will be talking about the opportunities to take the knowledge gained from and technology developed in the Motorsport industry and transfer them into other applications where they can make a real difference. Current APC projects have embraced this technology transfer opportunity, such as the GKN Gyrodrive project is used to regenerate braking energy on city buses with a high speed flywheel originally developed for Le Mans Prototypes using KERS technology.  The technology delivers a greater fuel efficiency of around 20 percent and results in lower vehicle emissions. This cutting edge technology is able to recycle the energy that would usually be lost as heat into rotational kinetic energy.
