From track to truck – low-carbon aero technology with Eddie Stobart

The Advanced Propulsion Centre last night attended the launch of a new technology which cuts CO₂ emissions on commercial vehicles using motorsport technology.

Wirth research unveiled an aerodynamic solution for Eddie Stobart which reduces drag by up to 30% compared with a standard vehicle, reducing fuel consumption on every journey. Jerry Williams, Commercial Director of Wirth revealed the vehicle at the Commercial Vehicle Show Media Reception at the NEC in Birmingham.  It is the latest example of how technology can transfer from race track to road delivering benefits to the UK economy.

In 2014, the APC provided £7.5 million towards the £16 million Gyrodrive project led by GKN and its partners which uses KERS technology from LeMans and is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20% on buses.
