Fuelling Britain’s Future Report

Cambridge Econometrics report “Fuelling Britain’s Future” was launched during a seminar hosted by the LowCVP at the House of Commons yesterday. The research was presented by Phil Summerton, Director at Cambridge Econometrics who was joined by Emam Martin-Vignerte (Bosch), Jerry Hardcastle OBE (Nissan) among other key speakers. The report covered a range of impacts that the development of low carbon technology would have on the economy and environment.

Significantly, the report examined job creation opportunities through the introduction of new technology and the potential for this to be undertaken in the UK. The report also highlighted figures showing fuel savings UK motorists could achieve using cars that harness low carbon technology in the future. Overall, the report presents a positive scenario to encourage future investment in developing low carbon technology.

The work of the APC was discussed during the panel session and highlighted by by Jerry Hardcastle OBE, Global Chief Marketability Engineer, Nissan and Chairman of the Automotive Council Technology Group. The conversation explored the work of the APC and its role facilitating the automotive industry’s progress in producing advance low carbon propulsion technology for the future.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive of the Advanced Propulsion Centre, Tony Pixton said:

We’re very encouraged by this study and are strong supporters of innovation in low carbon propulsion systems, several of which have been presented by the LowCVP today. The Advanced Propulsion Centre has already invested in projects worth more than £180 million to turn low carbon propulsion technology into products developed and produced in the UK. More than 2,500 jobs have been secured or created through the first six projects as part of the £1 billion, ten year programme.
